What the ChatGPT MCP server does

MCP is the protocol ChatGPT uses to reach a tool that is not built into it. The OpenClips server is one of those tools: once the connector is live, ChatGPT can list what your workspace holds, pick a model, send a render and tell you where the file landed. The chat stays the interface. The rendering happens on OpenClips, against the same account and the same credits you use in the composer.

Creating the connector by hand

ChatGPT accepts no install link, so this setup is typed rather than clicked. You turn on developer mode, create a connector, and paste the OpenClips server address into it. The steps above carry the path through ChatGPT's own settings and the address to paste. Nothing secret goes into that form: the address is public, and it is the same one every other client is given.

Approving the connection

The first tool call sends you to OpenClips in the browser to sign in and approve. That approval is what the server trusts, it is tied to your account, and removing the connector in ChatGPT ends it.
