MiniMax H3 vs Seedance 2.5: Best AI Video Model for Product Ads

Both models turn one product photo into a video ad with sound, and both sit in the same model picker on OpenClips. They are built for different jobs: here is what each one is, what happened when we ran them on the same photo and prompt, and which one to pick.

Both models turn one product photo into a video ad with its own soundtrack, and both sit in the same model picker on OpenClips. They are built for different jobs. This guide covers what each one is, what happened when we ran them on the same photo and prompt, and which one to pick for your ad.

What is MiniMax H3?

MiniMax H3 is MiniMax’s newest video model, launched on 31 July 2026. It is the third generation of the Hailuo line, so you will also see it called Hailuo 3.0 (Segmind). On OpenClips it replaces Hailuo 2.3, which made shorter clips from one image.

  • Inputs: text plus reference images, a first frame, or a first and last frame.
  • Sound: stereo audio written in the same pass. You describe it in the prompt.
  • Dialogue: 11 languages listed as stable, English and Spanish among them.
  • Aspect ratios: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 21:9 and adaptive.

Artificial Analysis ranked it first for video editing at launch (Segmind). Its strength in our videos is physics: water, ice, fabric and splashes that move like the real thing.

What is Seedance 2.5?

Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance’s video model, unveiled at the Volcano Engine FORCE conference in June 2026. The headline change is length: much longer takes in a single generation than Seedance 2.0 (GIGAZINE).

  • References: a deep stack of images at the vendor level. In the OpenClips composer you attach images.
  • Sound: optional, written in the same pass.
  • Binding: each image gets a tag, @Image1, @Image2 and so on, in the order you attach them. Give each one a role in the prompt (Runware, Sogni).

Test 1: a product packshot, same photo, same prompt

The setup: one drink product photo as the first frame, one prompt written second by second (ice drops, a splash, the camera pushes into the label, the ice clinks), generated on both models from the same picker.

Watch: MiniMax H3 vs Seedance 2.5: Which AI Video Model Is Best for Product Ads?. Watch the camera in round 1: H3 pushes into the label on cue, Seedance barely moves.

What the video shows, round by round:

RoundMiniMax H3Seedance 2.5
Following the promptDrops the ice on time and pushes into the label as askedRuns early, camera barely moves
The splashSmaller, looks realBigger, wilder wave
The labelSharp letter for letterSharp letter for letter
SoundWritten with the pictureWritten with the picture, ice clink lands on time
PriceAbout a quarter of the Seedance takeAbout four times the H3 take

The verdict in the video: H3 wins for most product ads because it follows the prompt, renders at its top resolution and costs about a quarter of the price. Seedance 2.5 wins when you want the biggest splash or a much longer clip.

Use this prompt to run the same kind of test on your own product. It follows the same structure (first frame, timed beats, one camera move, a sound line):

Packshot test — ice, splash, push-in to the label
Start on the uploaded photo of the bottle on a dark wet surface. Keep the label exactly as in the photo.
0 to 2 s: two ice cubes drop beside the bottle and bounce once.
2 to 5 s: a cold splash rises behind the bottle and falls back, droplets run down the glass.
5 to 8 s: slow push-in until the label fills the frame, every letter sharp.
Sound: ice clinking on glass at 0 s, a short splash at 2 s, then quiet fizz. No music.

Test 2: a product on a person

The second test is fashion: a model in a red silk dress on a sand dune at sunset as the first frame, on three models with the same settings and sound on.

Watch: Seedance 2.5 vs MiniMax H3 vs Wan 3.0: Same Photo, Same Prompt. Compare the silk: a flag in the wind on Seedance at 1:46, soft ripples on H3 at 2:09.

  • Seedance 2.5 goes big: the silk flies up like a flag, a veil of sand streams off the dune and she turns to the camera. Use it for the hero moment.
  • MiniMax H3 is the most natural: the silk ripples in soft waves and the sand blows like real wind. It was the cheapest of the three in this test, which makes it the one for testing many versions.
  • Wan 3.0 throws a burst of sand and pushes in until she looks into the lens. It sits in the middle on price. It is listed under older versions on our models page, so check the picker first.

Seedance 2.5 and Wan 3.0 took about 3 minutes, H3 a little longer. The prompt in the video was short: a slow push-in, a gust of wind lifting the silk and the sound of desert wind. A fuller version for your own product:

Product on a person — silk in the wind
Start on the uploaded photo. Keep the dress color, fabric and cut exactly as in the photo.
Slow push-in. A gust of wind lifts the silk of the dress and it moves in long waves, sand drifts off the dune behind her.
She stays in place and turns her head toward the camera at the end.
Sound: desert wind, soft fabric movement. No music.

Both models are in one picker on OpenClips. Run this test on your own product photo →

Test 3: on-screen captions the model writes itself

Printed labels are covered by Test 1: both models kept the label sharp letter for letter (round 3, at 0:45 in the video). New text the model has to write itself is a harder job. We have not run that side by side, but we do have an H3 render that leans on it: a 15-second eyeshadow ad with a prompted caption on almost every shot.

MINIMAX H3 ON OPENCLIPS — PROMPTED CAPTIONS, MUSIC ONLY — 9:16

Every prompted caption came out clean and legible: “MORE!”, “MIX IT UP”, “NO RULES”, “TOO MUCH?”, “MAXIMUM MODE” and the end card “TOO MUCH IS PERFECT OUT NOW”.

The catch: in the photobooth-collage shot, small sticker text in the background came out as nonsense letters. The big captions we asked for were right; the small background text was not. So spell out every word you want, add “no other text in the frame”, and read every frame before a price goes live. There is no Seedance 2.5 render of this brief, so treat it as an H3 result, not a head-to-head.

For a price tag on your own product, start from this prompt (not yet run on either model):

Price tag — a printed tag beside the product
Start on the uploaded photo of the product on a marble counter. Keep every word on the label exactly as in the photo.
0 to 3 s: a hand places a small paper tag next to the product. The tag reads "50% OFF TODAY" in bold black letters.
3 to 6 s: slow push-in until the label and the tag fill the frame.
6 to 8 s: hold, locked-off camera.
No subtitles. No other text in the frame.

Test 4: a UGC demo with dialogue

A talking person on both models is not in our videos yet. This prompt binds the product and the avatar to their own images, so attach the product first and the person second.

UGC demo — product and avatar bound to their own images
@Image1 is the product. Match it exactly: same shape, colors and label.
@Image2 is the woman. Keep her face and hair. Use @Image2 for the person only.
A bright bathroom, handheld phone selfie, natural window light.
0 to 4 s: she holds the product next to her face and says "Okay, I need to show you this."
4 to 10 s: she opens it and uses it once, slow ordinary movements, the label stays visible.
10 to 15 s: she turns the product to the camera and says "This is the one I keep buying."
Exactly one person in the shot. English dialogue.

We have not run this prompt on both models. The closest thing we have is a Seedance 2.5 render of a similar brief: 4 shots and 3 dialogue lines, landed in one render in about 2 minutes. Its only reference was a photo of the woman, so the jar came from the prompt rather than a product photo. There is no MiniMax H3 version of this brief, so this shows what Seedance did, not which model wins.

SEEDANCE 2.5 ON OPENCLIPS — ONE REFERENCE IMAGE, THREE LINES OF DIALOGUE — 9:16

Handheld selfie style: she opens a small unlabeled cream jar, applies it to her cheek and ends on a wink and a thumbs-up with the jar.

On Seedance 2.5 you can stretch this to a longer take with a middle beat where she walks to a mirror. H3 cannot run that long in one pass.

Which one should you pick?

Pick MiniMax H3 when:

  • The spot is short. That covers most paid social cuts.
  • Timing matters. In Test 1 it dropped the ice on time and pushed into the label as asked.
  • You are testing many hooks. It was the cheapest model in both tests, so you can run several variations for the price of one Seedance take.
  • The product has liquid, ice or fabric. Both videos show H3 moving them the way they move in real life.
  • You need a big frame. Our 15-second 9:16 H3 render came back at 1440x2560.
  • The same face and product must hold in every shot. H3 takes several reference images. In the render below we gave it two, a portrait and a palette packshot.
MINIMAX H3 ON OPENCLIPS — TWO REFERENCE IMAGES, ONE FACE AND ONE PALETTE — 9:16

The same face and fuchsia satin dress hold across every shot and the palette matches the packshot. One miss: in the final card she stands in front of “OUT NOW” and covers part of it.

That render took about 10 to 13 minutes, so leave time for top-resolution takes with references. Check end cards for text hidden behind the person, or keep the person out of the end card in your prompt.

Pick Seedance 2.5 when:

  • The ad needs a longer take. Of the two, only Seedance 2.5 runs that long in one pass, with no seams to hide. More in how to make longer AI videos.
  • It tells a story. In our tests, single long takes landed five and six beat briefs, dialogue included, on the first try.
  • You need the big moment. The biggest splash in Test 1, the silk flying like a flag in Test 2.
  • You need many references. Our three-person ad held every face, with one wrong shot out of 13.
  • The product is small. A ring photo used as the only reference held its stone and band across a long take.

Keep crowds out of Seedance. Every prompt with a crowd of anonymous people failed in our tests, 4 of 4. Keep product ads to one to three people.

Is MiniMax H3 open source?

Partly. MiniMax published the H3 weights on Hugging Face on 3 August 2026, with native ComfyUI support the same day (ComfyUI Wiki). Three limits:

  • The open weights skip the top resolution. The high-resolution module is not open-sourced yet, per the model card. It only comes through a hosted service.
  • The license excludes the US, the EU, the UK and South Korea. Companies there need a separate license from MiniMax.
  • Large companies need permission. Commercial products above $20 million in yearly revenue need written authorization, and must show the “MiniMax H3” name in their interface.

It is also heavy: a 33B model with a 61.7 GB diffusion checkpoint. For product ads you can skip all of it and run H3 in the browser.

Watch: MiniMax H3 Tutorial: Product Video Ads Without ComfyUI. The settings start at 0:35: first frame, vertical, the length, the top resolution, then the action and the sound line.

The steps from the tutorial:

  1. Click the plus and upload your product photo.
  2. Pick First frame so the video starts on your photo.
  3. Set vertical, the length and the top resolution.
  4. Describe what happens second by second.
  5. Write the sound you want.
  6. Check the price on the Generate button and generate. The clip lands in your Library.

Product-fidelity checklist

Run this on every render before it goes into an edit. Most points come from things that went wrong in our own tests.

  • Label: every word spelled right, no invented letters.
  • Shape and cap: same silhouette and proportions as the photo.
  • Color: same shade as the photo, not shifted by the scene light.
  • Logo: only yours. In one test the model stamped a brand mark on a jacket nobody asked for. Write “plain and unbranded” for clothes and props.
  • Count: one product unless you asked for more.
  • Hands: fingers wrap the product, nothing passes through it.
  • Timing: each beat lands when the prompt says. Seedance ran early in Test 1.
  • No freeze: “a held beat of silence” rendered as a 1.8-second frozen frame in our test. Write small motion instead: breathing, shifting light, a slow push-in.
  • Wardrobe per shot: a global outfit line was ignored in our test. Restate the outfit inside every beat.
  • Disclosure: an AI person on screen needs the platform’s AI label.

Common mistakes and fixes

  • Asking H3 for a long take. It makes short clips. Cut the script or switch to Seedance 2.5.
  • Unbound references. “Use these images” lets the model guess. Give each image one job: “@Image1 is the product”, “@Image2 is the woman”.
  • Too many beats in a short clip. A 15-second Seedance prompt with six beats failed twice for us. Split it into two shorter clips with one camera move each, and it passed.
  • A camera move that never happens. Give the move its own beat and its own seconds, and check it on a cheap draft.
  • Background leaking from the product photo. Add “use @Image1 for the product only, not the background”, or shoot the product on plain white.
  • Rendering final quality first. Draft at the lowest resolution, then re-render the winner.
